Location: Timber Trail Lodge and Outfitters is located in the Superior National Forest on a chain off our interconnected lakes. We have over 11,000 acres of water in which to recreate and direct access to the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness. Three of our four lakes have no motor restrictions.
Resort: We have 14 modern to deluxe housekeeping cabins ranging from one bedroom to six bedrooms. These cabins have fully furnished kitchens, decks or screened porches facing the water, a grill, a fire ring, lawn chairs, and docking. We also have a web cam overlooking our lake and many of our guests view our web cam on a daily basis, reminding themselves of their next trip to Timber Trail Lodge. Our newest cabins (Diamond Willow), (Evergreen) and (Wintergreen) are some of our deluxe accommodations.
Canoe Outfitting: Boundary Waters Outfitters at Timber Trail Lodge is a full service canoe trip outfitter. We have direct access to the Boundary Waters from our canoe base, and service all Ely area entry points. We specialize in day canoe trips, and partial or complete outfitting trips into the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness. Overnight accommodations are available, and we have family vacation specials along with non-profit group rates. www.boundarywatersoutfitters.com
Fishing: Our lakes have excellent fishing for Walleyes, Northerns, Bass and Crappie or pan fishing. Our guides are available for guided fishing trips, or if it is only information you seek, our guides will mark you're your map with the best fishing spots. Many of our guests return each year to take their annual guided fishing trip into the Boundary Waters Canoe Area, where the fishing is even better, and no one comes back disappointed with their experience.
Resort Activities: In addition to fishing we offer swimming at our natural sand beach, day canoe trips, hiking, boating, scenic plane rides and an evening of music around the fire. We are a short driving distance from The International Wolf Center, Dorothy Molter Museum, downtown shopping and restaurants, several golf courses, and the Soudan Mines. If there is an activity you are especially interested in please let us know and we will accommodate your needs.
Four Seasons of Activities: Timber Trail Lodge is a four season family resort. The fall fishing and color changes are fantastic at our favorite time of the year to vacation in Ely. It is quiet and the air is fresh and invigorating. Winter in Ely is great for snowmobiling, skiing, snowshoeing, or just relaxing in your cozy cabin. Dog sledding is our most popular activity, but advanced reservations are essential for obtaining a dog sledding trip. The spring is always the best time to catch a trophy Walleye or Northern, and we have many guests who visit us in this prime fishing season each year to take advantage of our “Spring Fishing Special”.
